First off, I love to dye my hair. I get tired with the same color all the time. I literally waited a whole year to dye my hair because I was going crazy, but this is what I used when I finally did it.
I wanted a red/plum color so I settled with the shade " Black Plum ."

It comes in a little tube and you're supposed to add creme developer to it. I chose thirty volume developer since I'm not a professional but I knew my hair was super dark so whatever.
I used a two to two ratio (as instructed) and mixed it all together. The instructions also stated that for virgin hair you were supposed to put it on all the hair, avoiding the roots, and let it sit for twenty minutes and for the last ten minutes add it to the roots to process. I wasn't 100% confident that the ends of my hair didn't have previously applied black dye to them, I just assumed because they appeared to have the same hue as my new growth (big mistake.)
When mixed together it turned into this strange pinky/peachy color that threw me off. I had seen awesome reviews on the red dyes of this line working for dark hair so I just kept going (when I should have stopped.) I put it on my hair as instructed, it looked the color I had seen on the internet so I was excited. I waited the full processing time, applied it to the roots, and waited again.
I jumped in the shower, rinsed it all out, conditioned and got out to style. Mind you, I had this bright ass lamp in the bathroom so I could see better since only one lightbulb works in my bathroom (don't judge, ain't nobody got time to be climbing on counters and sh*t.) I could see the plum/red tint so I was happy as hell, because I figured I would see it better once my hair was dry.
I let my hair air dry that night, and the color wasn't really appearing. I got worried, like, did I just put a harmful developer in my hair for nothing? Did it work? Did I miss a spot? So it's fully dry and oh my gosh, It absolutely did not work. I had a weird strip of red-ish hue in the front of my head and HOT ASS ROOTS which I followed the instructions thoroughly to avoid. I was pissed, at this point I just kept talking about how I needed to fix my hair. It was horrible.
So, bottom line, this hair dye did not work as well as I've seen the reds or the violets work. And I suggest that if you want the color that I was attempting to achieve don't go with the blacks, just do a red or a violet because the blacks are not going to give you a more subtle red or violet color.
Luckily, I fixed my hair and kind of got the color I wanted, not all the way but this will do. I ended up damaging my hair after I fixed it though and thank goodness I revived it with my restorative hair mask. If you would like to see how I achieved the color I have now 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 tune in next week!
