Toddler Curly Hair Routine

Beginning to do a toddler's hair or even having a regimen set up seems almost impossible, but I promise you it can get done.
As most of you know, I have a one year old daughter, Ava, and she has tight coils near the back of her head, and a looser pattern towards the front and top of her head. It seemed as if her hair was always dry, and it would have many single strand knots and tangles. After many trial and errors with her mane, I've found what products work best for her hair and how to keep her hair healthy without too much manipulation.

First of all, I only wash her hair once every two weeks. Her hair is fine, and VERY low porosity so I want to retain as much of that moisture as possible. Week two (out of the month) that her hair gets washed, I use a sulfate to remove dirt. (She's a toddler, her hair is gonna get pretty gross. I've actually pulled a booger out of one of her curls before, but that's another story.) I've found that the Aveeno Baby Shampoo works best. It's the only thing I've used thus far that doesn't completely strip her hair, and it's still manageable after I rinse it all out. Now, week four (out of the month) I do not use a sulfate. By this time her hair needs as much moisture it can get. To get her scalp clean and give her hair a drink I use the As I Am Coconut Co-Wash . This is literally my stable product for my hair and hers. As soon as I put it in, her hair soaks it right up and I don't really have to put product in it afterwards, but I do anyway.
Finding what leave-in to use in her hair that worked and kept her hair hydrated has been the hardest part. Her hair is tricky, and doesn't take to much. But, the two products I use in her hair that keeps it healthy, strong, and hydrated are Pink Lotion and TréLuxe Curl Supreme 4-in-1 Hydrating Creme. (And yes, I said Pink Lotion.)
I'll plop one or both of those products in her hair, put it in some little pony tails and call it a night! Of course, her hair is still going to get messed up, but the goal is to maintain as much health to her hair as I can in her early years. I suggest if your little one has thicker hair to use a cream, and if their hair doesn't get desert dry to use a light leave in. The last thing we want to do is drown the poor baby's hair.

That's pretty much it! Since I started this routine my daughters curls have been poppin', and it's been way easier to manage. She actually likes getting her hair done now. When it comes time to write about my son's hair care routine though.. I might have to make that a book.
