How I Fixed My Botched Hair Dye Job

If you've read my previous post you know that I dyed my hair using L'Oréal Excellence HiColor Blacks Hair Dye for Dark Hair Only and that it was a fail. I took the initiative to fix my hair (even though I messed it up in the first place) because I just couldn't live with it. If you want to know what I used and how I did it, keep on readin'.

For some reason, don't ask why, I wanted to be extra as hell. I knew that I wanted a dark root and for my hair to kinda ombré into the red/berry/plumb color I was dying for (no pun intended.) Keep in mind, I'm not a licensed professional, I don't know what I'm doing so I don't know why I decided to do the most.

For the dark root I just purchased a simple black hair dye, and for my ends I purchased a powder lightener and a berry/plum colored dye to put over the lightened areas when I was done. I also bought a protein treatment that was horrible so I'm not even going to link it, and it's actually what inspired me to make my own because it didn't work. All it did was make my hair smell like dental floss. (Everything was purchased at Sally's.)

I knew I was probably gonna have to lift the color of my ends to be able to deposit the color I wanted. This is also where I almost had to chop off two to three inches of my hair because of all the damage that was done.

Going in for the kill, I applied the black dye to all of my roots, then began to mix the thirty volume cream developer and the powder lightener. Two to two ratio, just like the first dye I used. I still had one of those ombré brushes you get in the Féria ombré hair dye kits so I just used that to apply the bleach to avoid harsh lines. I let all of the dye sit on my hair for about half an hour and I did not expect to see the results I got.

I assumed my ends were going to lift to a blonde but I guess since I already deposited a red/plum color to them a couple of days before, they lifted to red! Because this happened, I ended up returning the Dark and Lovely Passion Plum hair dyes. And, of course, my roots were black, so that ugly strip of nonsense was gone. The lightener I used literally killed my ends that I had to fix with my mask. My hair ended up looking even better after using what I made. So this is what I'm workin' with now. It looks different in certain lighting but I like it!

I would obviously not advise you to do this, I just want to share my experience with you guys in hopes that y'all don't do what I did! If you want a change in your hair, go to a professional, preferably someone who specializes in your hair type/texture. Don't be me (:
